Sydney Harbour Cruise Review

Saturday 24th February 2007   For photos of this event please click here

The weather gods smiled upon us as we had an absolutely awesome day in which to sit back and soak up all that Sydney Harbour has to offer.

We all assembled on time (well done everyone) at Darling Harbour Marina at 9:00am. The dragon boat race regatta entertained us all while Terry (our skipper for the day) docked the Doral 3700 sports cruiser, our ride for the next four hours.

After jumping on we cruised out of Darling Harbour under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and headed east to take in the sights. The Opera House was magnificent as always and our first port of call was Woolloomooloo Bay and marina. There are some dollars tied up in boating there.

Rushcutters Bay, Double Bay and Rose Bay are littered with multi-million dollar properties including the now very well visited “Aussie John’s” tri level mansion. The sites along the Harbour are motivation enough for us all to think differently about how we manage our professional lives.

Eventually we broke out the drinks, cheese and sandwich platters as we putted around which put a smile on all our faces.

We decided to anchor at Castle Rock Cove and hailed down Gary (the local mobile floating café vendor) for some tasty ‘half double caf de cafs with a twist’. I went for a skinny flat white. Despite it clearly stating to bring your swimmers on the invite, no one did, except me of course. As the temperature soared my inhibitions decreased so I took the plunge. The water was crystal clear and warm. Magic! I was conscious that the sight of me in my swimwear could turn some off their lunch but what the heck!

From there we sailed down to the spit and under the bridge to check out some more of the sites. Terry eventually turned for home and we powered back to Darling Harbour. The four hours seemed to fly by and none of us really wanted to dis-embark but the lure of lunch won out.

The Black Bird Café at Darling Harbour was a fitting end to our day and I’m sure all enjoyed their meals. It did not go unnoticed that everyone had eyed the sweets display and had picked their dessert before they had ordered their meal. That’s living.

All in all I’d say the day was a success with everyone smiling broadly. We look forward to the next Boat Day, which will be towards the end on March.

Thanks again to everyone, who came, the Harbour turned it on for us but it’s the people who make any event, so cheers.

Warmest regards Shaughan :)
